I’m increasingly persuaded that bitcoin is a world-historic development, akin to the steam engine and nuclear power, and perhaps as monumental as the wheel or fire. Yet, there is no straightforward and honest source of coverage. Everything I’ve learned has been stitched together from youtube videos, podcasts, twitter threads, and a few books. And almost everything I’ve read in the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times, or even tech-friendly sources like MIT’s Technology Review, makes very basic errors about the nature of bitcoin and what it offers the world. I mean laughably so. The strongest arguments for bitcoin simply go unaddressed while the weakest criticisms get reused over and over. There is lots of great content on youtube and podcasts, yet, for the person with other things to do, it is a daunting task to sort through the mountains of online content, the vast majority of which is complete nonsense or blatant scammery. There are great books, but who reads more than one recommended book per year, and who is going to squander that on a book about bitcoin? In order to learn about this, your curiosity needs to be piqued sufficiently strongly to decide to dive in yourself. Perhaps I can spark that pique as someone with a healthy skeptical streak as well as wide ranging interests who has nonetheless focused on this topic almost obsessively. Please pepper me with questions and criticisms, the harsher the better. I have a fair bit on the line here, so I’d really love to know if I’m wrong. And please feel free to share, the more critics the better.
